I agree with you I mislabeled the phenomenon as dissociative identity disorder. I was trying to draw a parallel between the two but it sounded as if I was trying to say that people literally thought that they were God. I really meant to say that people often act like God in the sense that they believe that they can be the head of their own lives and don't need someone else helping them through their struggles. I've edited my mistaken comments.
On the second note I also agree. I'm not sure why people flock to religion just so they know where they'll go when they die. That seems so hollow to know that you're just living to die. Many come to church trying to assure their place in some lofty heavenly mansion. Sure we go to heaven but there is so much more than that. I think Christianity is really more about leading a life in Christ. In this walk with him we allow him to come into our life in and heal us. All of the broken places in our lives become whole and our hurts are taken away. It's then that we can really live to the fullest extent.

You sound like my father. He said similar things to me a couple weeks ago. But I must ask, WHY would anyone want to go to heaven? I'm not saying anyone shouldn't and I'm not saying I don't believe in God. It's just unfathomable to me that people flock to religions just so they know where they'll go when they die. My life is hell already, so don't care where I go. Nowhere could be worse than where I've already been.

Just one more comment, rather one question: How does any of this have to do with dissociative identity disorder? Do you think that people with this disorder think they are God? You couldn't be further from the truth. I think you're thinking of narcissism or megalomania, maybe both.
